lawn garss
How to grow lawn grass [2022]

The ‘how to grow lawn grass is the main task and its central part of the garden. It provides green canvasing to the whole garden. And the rest of the garden is getting arranges surrounding it. you need to plant a lawn grass type as per your requirement means is it going to used for play are or general-purpose. If for general-purpose soft regular lawns grass is ok (i.e.Selection one, Rough lawn).

Today we are on the topic of how to grow lawn grass. In the last article, we just learned how to pave the borders. Bricks and paver blocks shape the overall look of the Garden. Now we start or head to planting work.

Whenever you start to learn how to grow lawn grass one thing is to keep in mind that two periods of the year are good to grow a lawn. One is in the summer and the other is

How to grow lawn grass- consists of two parts

One is the green part and the other is the technical part.

Now you guys will say what is the green part and what is technical part let me explain it.

1. Green part: –

This means whatever we plant and which grows over time for example planting a Tree, Shrub, growing lawn grass, etc.

2. Technical part

It means the basic work of making soil leveling, digging, plowing, and making Paver block fitting. And some civil work like making of Fountain, water bodies for some aquatic plants, fishpond, etc.

A lush green lawn grass

Today we learn to plant Garden lawns. Because in most cases a typical Garden consists of 50 To 60 percent lawn area.

And it also takes time to grow if you saw it by planting lawn cuttings from any other established healthy lawn.

Or you may buy readymade lawn blocks available in the market or by seed spreading also.

We grow lawn as the first part of the garden green work.  Because it took around 2 to 3 months for a complete grown green cover like Look. Which will not have vacant spaces in between lawn plants.

You get the complete green clover-like appearance after sawing the lawn in and around 2-3 months in tropical weather.

Some warm weather suits it when you plant a lawn. In some weather conditions, it may take 4-5 months also.

Lawn development (How to grow lawn grass) consists of three steps as below:

The first step for growing lawn grass is base Fertilization (Fertilization of the soil).

The second is insect and termite treatment to soil and the third is sawing off the lawn.

The fourth step is regular watering.

And the last step is loan mowing by lawnmower machines on regular basis.

After following the above steps you get the complete green carpet-like lawn at the end of these practices. The basis of in which weather format you are planting a lawn may stretch the growth of the lawn.

So sometimes it may 4 to 5 months to take a complete appearance.

Now, why do we choose to plant a lawn first? Because in most cases a typical Garden consists of 50 To 60 percent of lawn area.

    1.   Fertilization of the soil for growing lawn grass

Now we discuss/ understand the fast step that Fertilization of the soil before planting a lawn.  We just studied and understood the basic step of land preparation in the previous article here in this blog.  So you may find the detailed land preparation in that article.

Here we have completely prepared land as we learned in the past article.

Meanwhile, we have to spread some part of FYM that is farm Yard manure. “Matlab desi animal ke Gobar mein se Bani Hui Sukhi Khad” and DAP is a chemical granule fertilizer that has the full form of Di Ammonium phosphate.

This is considered useful as a base fertilizer for planting lawns in any crop on the farms.

It has a slow-releasing capacity.  So meanwhile it provides a parallel supplement of nutrients to the lawn as it develops daily.

The requirement for the area can be calculated as below

Approximately 2 kg DAP and 10-15 kg FYM for the area of

10 x 10 feet = 100 square feet area.

It’s a general base fertilizer requirement.  But as we discussed soil here in the previous article that how to prepare your Soil before starting a Garden.

At their, we discussed the soil testing report which we get after the testing of our Soil.  So you may have different requirements for the fertilization of your soil.

Then you need to follow those fertilizer recommendations instead of the ideal dose described here.

   2.   Clear soil from insects

The second step is removing insects from the soil, termites etcetera, etc. For removal use some insecticides which are available on the market. And go to the nearest agro pesticides supplier/vendor and ask them for termite removal chemicals and application dose it before applying it to your Garden.

If you have children at your home you have to be careful while using these chemicals. As they are poisonous, so after each use put it in a lock and key situation or storage. If not completely used.  And if used completely then dump the pacing properly from out of reach of the children.

You can also ask a pesticide vendor for its detail and storage guidelines. As you may have questions that why doing Or following this step. We are especially doing this step for the removal of termites which are usually found in most soils.

If we do not remove this termite from this soil it will eat the roots of the newly planted lawn cuttings. And if we grow lawns by seeds then why do we need this termite application? So here I am explaining that if you grow by seed  It’ll grow as a baby plant in the future.

And that plant also has a root zone, it can be damaged by termites. So whatever planting methods of lawn are but we need to follow this step. In most Indian soils termites are present.

There is the other problem of fungal infection that may also occur. As per experience, it is never found usually in it but if you found it you may treat the soil with fungicide.

   3. Sawing off the lawn grass

We usually in India have the warm seasons grasses for lawn.

Due to the warm weather of the country for around 8 to 9 months a year atmosphere was found warm except for bad rainstorms and a few months of winter.

You can first see the lawn by planting grass seed as there is some seed spraying technique also available.

This technique is useful in the case of large areas and to get uniform growth of the lawn.

For example, the Golf course lawn development which usually consists of large lawn areas.

And when you are growing the lawn grass by the seed you need to buy the quality grass seed from a vendor/supplier.

And the second technique is how to grow lawn grass by cuttings/grass plants from old well-grown lawns.

For this, you have to scrape out any existing lawn patch with healthy lush green, insect-free green lawn with “pawda“. And it should be with a root zone for planting in your new garden area.

Usually, these lawn grass types are lawns common in the gardens as described below:

  1. Selection one
  2. Rough lawn ( Axonopus finish )
  3. Carpet lawn

Learn in detail about these lawns in the next article.

Systematically planned and placed lawns make the color and texture of your garden floor. A well-drained lawn helps you satisfy both functional and aesthetic needs. It serves a comfortable look for outdoor activity while relaxing with the landscape.

Good and healthy lawn development requires a little bit of hard work and patience and utilities like

Digging tools,

Lawn mowers,

Rakes,

Hedge trimmers or Pruning scissors, etc.

Trend change, as per time, sometimes garden gets designed with a big part of lawn among the total garden area and a sometimes small part of the lawn.

The most common three grass types in INDIA are 1. Selection one, 2. Carpet lawn, and 3. Rough lawn for detailed information on these lawns and planting and maintenance methods read below

Maintenance of these types of lawn grass is easy yet not that easy. Because if we follow the proper procedure of regular maintenance then it’s not that difficult to manage the good appearance and health of the lawn.

But if you are not so regular in maintaining, it becomes difficult to get a good appearance in the long run.

For a planting lawn how to make land preparation for the garden, can learn in the article here.

After that, you can go for the planting of the lawns. so you can have the best lawn.

There are 3 types of lawn grass for a garden lawn which are best selected for most gardens and also types of lawn grass in India.

1 Selection one

2 Carpet lawn

3 Rough lawn

we understand each lawn type step by step below:

1. Selection one lawn –

It’s the most used and loved lawn by the look and by maintenance also. And the best grass for a lawn in India when it’s come to maintenance, weather adaption, good appearance, and fewer termite problems.

Selection one lawn

In a multi-weather-like situation, it sets well and some warm weather is good for it. In India, it’s mostly used in gardens.

You can grow it with seeds, cuttings, and ready-made turf blocks available in your local nurseries.

How to grow these types of lawn grass? You can see the video below. manually growing it basic and easiest way.

The video is in Hindi language but you can watch it to do it practically.

In the winter its growth slows due to down temperatures. You can observe it in your garden. As it bears low-height shoots. But still, it maintains the best green look at this time of the year.

And in monsoon it gets thin and long you can see its scattered/see-through look you can easily see it.

This means its density gets lowest than a whole year.

We have to regularly mow it to get an even carpet-like green look. At least 10 days of the interval is good if you are managing a domestic garden like a home or farmhouse or community hall etc. It isn’t a problem you can follow the interval of 15 days also.

Whereas if you are having big areas like cricket grounds, or football grounds you can stretch the schedule to 15-20 days not more than this.

2. Carpet lawn

It’s not like the first one, it’s kind of a little bit hard leaves than the other two lawns described here.

credits: amazon.in/Syed-carpet-grass-seed

A little bit spiny, you can feel it by walking barefoot and seating on the carpet lawn. It slightly stings while sitting on it when not mowed for a long time.

It’s also known as Korean carpet grass.

Nowadays it’s in demand in a short time for garden project completion. mostly in city planning and quick fit. Good for the short time frame of the Garden project completion.

Because it’s easily available in ready-made blocks in the dimension of 1×2 square feet piece.

So you have to just make the land ready (give some light dose of DAP fertilizer for long-term base fertilizer), level, and then start putting these blocks not leaving the space in between.

Don’t forget to apply termiticide before laying the blocks. Because termite loves their roots.

Even a dry lawn also attracts termites so don’t forget to water this lawn at regular intervals.

It’s a good lawn to stop stubborn weed areas. And very strong and thick compared to the other two lawns selected rough lawns.

The carpet lawn nicely fights Cyprus weed expansion. Not completely stops it but it controls it by 60-70% approximately.

You can also grow this lawn manually by planting root-bearing lawn cutting at a distance of 0.75 to 1 foot (leaving measurement around each cutting).

If you mow lawn late and deep then you can have exposed stems/roots and a pale yellowish look.

3. Rough lawn (paspalum)

This is the best lawn for shady and semi-shade areas that still grow nicely below the open sky. Paper-like thin leaves.

Rough lawn (paspalum)

Need regular watering otherwise get down on irregular watering. In too hot weather leaf edges get burned.

It feels soft compared to a carpet lawn while walking barefoot.

It’s not dense as carpet lawn and selection one lawn so have some weeds seen. Thus need regular weeding at intervals of a few days.

Grow this lawn manually by planting root-bearing lawn cutting at a distance of 0.75 to 1 foot (leaving measurement around each cutting).

At least 10 days of the interval is good for lawn mowing if you are managing a domestic garden like a home or farmhouse or community hall etc.

For mowing, you can use electric or petrol-run lawn mowers as well as manual lawn mowers for four types of machines.

Manual lawn mowers are not a good choice if you have a carpet lawn because it takes some effort in mowing this lawn.

So here we complete the brief learning of types of lawns.

Winters are the best period for giving fertilizers to any lawn. Because in most cases we use chemical fertilizers for their better look-after establishment. Flood watering is good after the application of chemical fertilizers.

These chemical Fertilizers (for ex. Urea) are warm in nature. So during the bulk application, it’s good to choose winter. So burning of lawn shoots or whole lawn dry patches of the lawns can be avoided compared to summer application.

It’s OK to apply such Fertilizers in any weather but winter is a better option.

The best fertilizer for lawn grass in India

One of the best fertilizers for the Top 3 types of lawn grass for a garden lawn as explained above are UREA, COMPOST/FYM, and vermicompost. You can also use this fertilizer for other types of lawn grass.

Urea for lawn grass :

It’s the main source of nitrogen and is also widely used in agriculture also. But here we use it for lawn development and to make it lush green and healthy.

It’s available in crystal form. And contains 46% nitrogen.

It can be applied to soil as a solid or as a foliar spray.

Slow-release Urea is also available in the market which is useful for all three types of lawn grass.

The very basic style you can apply to the lawn is to get your palm full of it and throw widely as many areas as you can cover, this is enough for any regularly maintained lawn.

After application of the urea watering is a must, at least for 4-5 days two times a day continuously if possible, or one time a day with a good amount of water. And yes immediately after spreading the Urea on the lawn.

After the application of the Urea, we should not break the watering schedule as I said above. Otherwise, there are chances of the burning of the lawn.

COMPOST/FYM for lawn grass :

Compost is the best organic natural Fertilizer which is full of microorganisms.

It’s the microorganisms that play a vital role in the development of grass or any crop as well.

They make the nutrition available for the lawn.

VERMI-COMPOST for lawn grass:

It’s made from the decomposition of earth soil by earthworms (as used mostly in India), red wigglers, and white worms.

You can buy organic vermicompost online as well as from local nurseries also.

Best organic fertilizer for lawns and garden plants.

Extra care points

Whatever type of lawn grass type you grow as per your requirements, all lawns are good as per particular accommodation.

If you notice over a period of time all lawn gets down, and weeding frequencies increase. Even an overall look can get a dull little bit. So replanting can be a good option after a few years.

So there are two ways to get it done one by replanting and the other by some series of practices. Like aggressive weeding, timely application of fertilizers, watering, etc.

Lawn mowing

Lawn mowing

Regular lawn mowing is best for the health of the lawn and its green even appearance. If you mow the lawn on an irregular base lawn will grow in height. and after that when you cut the lawn cream/pale yellow stem part of the lawn plant bottom will appear.

And as a result, you will have an ugly cream-colored look instead of a green look.

Deep cutting of the lawn is good but not regular/frequent, you can do it three to four times a year,

Usually, we call it zero-cut lawn mowing.

You can use some good electric lawn mowers as well as a manual lawn mower for lawn cutting your lawn for it to have fine even cutting. These practices are good for all types of lawn grass.

Replanting

In Replanting, you need to scrape all the existing laws and then the same lawn can be replanted by screening them for weeds carefully. only healthy shoots can be selected.

An open scraped area needs to plow or a rotavator can be moved and the backyard garden can be deep dug manually with a pickaxe ( always check for safety like underground electric cables, pipelines, etc. You can read more after practice for growing lawns.

When we walk on the same lawn area over and over that area starts losing lawns sometimes lawns completely get away so we need to plant a new lawn.

But as a prevention when you start seeing such symptoms on the lawn, you should avoid walking in such areas frequently at least for one or two months. On a prevention base, you can sprinkle gypsum powder from any nearest agri. store.

You can use chlorpyriphos for drenching the soil to avoid termites and other insects in the soil which can bother the lawn growth in the future

Practice other than Replanting

And in other practices when you don’t need to replant you need to dethatch your lawn and after dethatch, you can move the lawnmower on it to collect the dethatched lawn (see video below).

If you have a small lawn area you can rake at regular intervals to make the lawn clean and healthy

Dethatching of Garden Lawn

Then you can spread the soil mixture to rejuvenate A generalized ideal mixture of earth soil 80% + fine sifted river sand not more than 20% to maintain the porosity.

You can add pesticide (*while using pesticide always check and follow safety rules) for termite treatment or any other pest problem.

Also add Urea or FYM (compost) or vermicompost.

Above all gardening practices is suitable for all three types of lawn grass

Below are the six most trending plants for houses

1. Monstera (creeper)

We saw a trend of indoor plants from Mother in Law’s tongue to Aeralias to Monstera (Aka ‘Swiss cheese plant’).

Here we know about Statement-making plants Monstera. Nowadays it’s of the best trending plants for houses.

‘Monstera deliciosa‘ is an Araceae Family tropical plant, It is also known as a ‘swiss cheese plant.

Because plant leaves have eyes-like holes that resemble holes in some swiss type cheese.

This Monstera plant also gets confused with Philodendron bipinnatifidum (  Thaumatophyllum bipinnatifidum) but It’s a different plant.

Monstera is an epiphyte plant that bears aerial roots and can grow 17-18 feet tall in wild forest habitats.

As they grow very tall, they can grow 2 to 3 meters in height if planted indoors.

Perforated leaves are very large by 20- 80 Cm long (Approx).

As compared to other indoor plants its roots grow more in time so the root ball gets dense.

So You need to do repotting on time with the change of pot size to larger than the old pot.

They also need moss stick support for better standing in pots.

Because in a natural habitat they as epiphytes grow on woody trees And start to grow upwards chasing the light, creeping up the tree as support.

As this plant grows on trunks of trees they get filtered sunlight through it.

Hence they naturally love a semi-shade atmosphere, where the hard sun may burn their leaves.

Regular shallow watering is good for the plant except for winter and monsoon.

You can understand how this is a large house plant compared to other plants here.

2. Syngonium (arrowhead plant)

Syngonium is an Araceae family plant, Native to tropical rain forests in southern Mexico, the west indies, and Central and Southern America.

It’s a good leafy creeper. You can try it on walls or any structure and plant it in a pot also.

Leaves come in a heart shape.

When a plant is grown as an indoor specimen the leaves are most often variegated green with white.

It’s a woody vine.

It’s an excellent houseplant. Nowadays after awareness that it also survives ‘in house’ well for home, it also falls in a trending plants category.

Toxicity– Seek urgent medical attention if lips or tongue become swollen or if there is difficulty breathing or swallowing

It’s a shade lover plant, but the too-hard sun may damage leaves.

Watering on an alternate day is good, you can see a premature leaf fall on frequent overwatering.

Mostly seen pests are spider mites, mealybugs, aphids, and scale. you can prevent them by a spray of neem oil for an approx interval of 10-15 days.

3. Areca palm (a wise indoor plant)

This is the most commonly used well-known house plant, a good survivor in the homely atmosphere.

Nowadays this is among the best trending plants for houses.

Need less water and average indirect sunlight.

The areca palm otherwise referred to as butterfly palm, golden cane palm, bamboo palm, or its Latin name, Dypsis lutescens, may be a native of Madagascar.

Areca palms require bright, indirect light, but direct sunlight may burn the leaves.

Home temperatures between 17°C to 27°C are fine, but sudden temperature changes can cause damage to the leaves.

Indoors, expect this plant to be 6 to 10 feet (2 to three meters) tall.

Situations that kill this plant are over-watering and/or not providing drainage.

Plant in well-draining potting soil, during a pot with drainage holes.

Allow the highest of the soil to dry out between waterings, and waterless often during the winter months.

It is slow-growing and prefers to be somewhat root-bound, so it should only require repotting every year.

Repot during the spring and a pot 2-4 inches wider than the present pot.

If you’d wish to help your palm grow faster, you’ll feed it a diluted water-soluble fertilizer monthly during the spring and summer growing seasons.

4. Spathiphyllum (peace lily)

It’s number four on our list of trending plants. Native primarily to tropical rainforests of America, the spathiphyllum plant may be a vibrant and graceful perennial that adds life to any space.

The white blooms of the spathiphyllum generally appear within the spring as more of a modified leaf, a “bract,” than a multi-petaled flower.

Peace lilies are listed by the ASPCA together with the common houseplants that are poisonous to cats.

Among the trending plants listed here, This plant contains oxalates which may irritate an animal’s mouth and stomach.

If ingested it’s toxic to dogs.

The calcium oxalate crystals can cause an inflammatory reaction that ends up in swelling of the mouth, tongue, throat, and upper airway.

spathiphyllum care tips-

If you’re trying to find suggestions on the way to look after a spathiphyllum, you’ve come to the proper place.

Read on to seek out more about spathiphyllum care below.

Light: Peace lilies prefer light partial shade, and may tolerate fluorescent lights.

Some are known to thrive in rooms with no windows in the least.

Yellowing leaves indicate that the sunshine is just too strong, and brown leaves or streaks indicate scorching from direct sunlight.

Consider placing the plant six to eight feet far away from a north- or west-facing window.

Water: If you’re wondering how often to water a spathiphyllum, one tip is to wait for the plant to droop slightly before watering.

One of the good advantages of caring for the spathiphyllum is the incontrovertible fact that it sags a touch when it needs water, essentially telling you when it’s thirsty.

Generally, water a minimum of once every week and keep the soil moist. Throughout the summer season, spritz the leaves with soft or water.

Water your plant less in winter.

Temperatures: The spathiphyllum makes an excellent house plant because it thrives within the indoor temperatures most people enjoy.

It prefers a temperature range of 60-80°F and humid climates. Peace lilies cannot withstand cold drafts or temperatures below 44°F.

It’s best to stay indoors most of the year and display far away from any heating or cooling home appliances.

Pests and Problems: Compared to other indoor plants, the spathiphyllum is comparatively resistant to insects and diseases.

While they will get spider mites, aphids, and mealybugs, owners generally keep these pests in check with the regular wiping of the leaves.

For pest removal try recommended pesticides.

To avoid Brown leaves always check for over-watering, over-fertilizing, and absence of humidity. See your plant’s signals.

If leaves are browning at the rock bottom of the plant, it could just mean these older leaves can’t compete with the sooner-growing younger leaves.

5. Snake plant (very less maintenance indoor plant)

This is among less maintenance trending plants for houses.

And a very good tolerant plant.

If sometimes by a week or some days you do not pay attention to them still they grow very well and survive in good health.

As a good indoor plant, it also cleans the air of the home, as per NASA it also removes formaldehyde and benzene.

They survive low lights and some drought levels and have not too many insect problems with them.

If you find some brown dying leaves from the top you can drench the plant with fungicides to avoid such problems.

Mancozeb or carbendazim, approx solution measurements can be 2 gram/Litre water).

Propagation can be done by plant cuttings that need well-drained soil.

Another variety of Snake plant

There are lots of species of snake plants available but the most commonly used and famous house plant is sansevieria trifasciata.

Some other useful varieties areas below you can use:-

Sansevieria ‘Golden Hahnii’

Cylindrical snake plant, Sansevieria cylindrical

Sansevieria trifasciata ‘Twist’

White Snake Plant, Sansevieria trifasciata ‘Bantel’s Sensation’

It’s among the best sturdy, hard to die, less water, fewer nutrient requirements trending plants

6. Money plant (golden or variegated)

It is very famous in the whole of India and abroad as a house plant.

I think, Most commonly, it gets propagated from the cuttings with three to four inter-nodes.

One can plant it in a pot with a good soil mixture as well as in a flask or bottle with only water having some liquid fertilizers added.

Maintenance wise it’s easy among trending plants for houses.

Grows are good in both mediums but soils are all good sources for all plants, they flourish in soil awesome.

Watering – Four times a week in summer, Two times a week in winter, and during winter pots are in open spaces there is no need for watering.

Or pots on the Balcony having mist/drops of the rain plant will survive itself (if rain stretches for a week you can start watering it manually.

The plant is sensitive to the hard sun so be careful in summer.

The hard sun will burn the leaves by 30 to 50 % and in the case of new shoots/newborns leaves may completely get burned.

So it’s advisable to relocate it to a semi-shade area/place during summer.

If it’s not possible to relocate, water regularly/ daily water in the soil as well as spray-on leaves also to minimize the burns as low as possible.

After rotting is found in the plants you can try applying any good fungicides available in the market by drenching the application.

If you have this plant on the balcony during the monsoon, put it a little bit on the inner side of it to avoid continuous raindrops falling in it.

Because this may act as overwatering and the plant will start leaf fall.

You can trail this creeper on the door entry, balcony, Or sidewalls of the home by providing a supporting structure of bamboo, wire, or any iron grills/ bars.

In a big home or resort, you can create a gazebo and the roofs of it get covered with trailing Money plants.

If planted in a pot, leaf size gets limited to 2 to 3 inches wide whereas, plants sowed in the soil get wider leaves than pots larger by 4 inches and more.

General care for trending plants for home.

Semi shade is always the best location for a house plant, if possible.

If you have no arrangements for semi-shade i n your home then you can also put it in a full shade but you need to give all plants sunlight at least once a week.

For example, If you live in a flat you can put together all plants in sunlight -facing gallery for the whole day and then relocate them to their original place in the home.

And you are living in a house built on the floor, putting the plants in open sunlight for the whole day.

It’s always better to choose Sunday to do this practice.

This practice may save your plants from multiple plant problems like rotting, loose leaves, leaf burning/ curling, dying of plants, etc.

Gives all over good growth.

Until the upper layer of soil of the pot or container does not get dry, never water it. Or do not practice flooding of water in house plant care.

You may see sudden leaf fall, rotting of roots, and plants may die at the end.

Instead, practice shallow watering on alternate days. You can spray water on leaves.

Keep in mind that the plant root systems need moisture not flooding of water, so you need to maintain moisture in the soil.

The plant will flourish and will thank you.

And then the last but important problems are bugs and mites.

Do spray water often on leaves to avoid insect habitats.

If the problem persists you can practice some home remedy or Neem oil or and the last option can be insecticide.

Rainy weather plant care guide [2022]

Rainy weather plant care [2022]

Today we are going to discuss the handy tips for how to take care of plants in Rainy Weather, you will get the complete answer to this question.

We the people of India blessed with the best weather. Especially the plant’s lover/collector, they have a collection of plants.

For every plant lover, I am discussing a domestic plant collector.

They care for all three main seasons: summer, monsoon, and winter by themselves.

They maintain their plant by themselves without taking any specialized annual maintenance services.

They care for them like their child. As far as I know, they hire gardeners for watering weeding, etc.

A gardener who waters digs the soil, fertilizes, and does the weeding.

There is no need to water if they are below the open sky. When they are having frequent rain on time.

After the first rain, if it does not arrive after two to three days you may water on the third or fourth day. Just check the upper layer of the potting soil or garden soil is dry enough, before watering.

But it is always on you to be vigilant about how plants react. Don’t let plants without water. So as the situation arrives water the plant.

Plants who absorbed too much water. They have symptoms like leaf fall, rotting of root zones, and the gloomy appearance of plants.

If you have a big corridor with plants arranged in the open sky know the varieties that don’t like too much water.

Put such plants in a roofing shade so plants will not get direct pouring rain. It may ruin some varieties badly or damage them

Desert/tropical varieties do not like rain for example- Adeniums, cactus plants, succulents, etc

Always check for a drainage hole at bottom of the pot. if it is a ceramic, Earthen, or plastic pot It’s necessary for proper drainage of excess water.

Hence during the time of monsoon, pot floods with pot soil.

The root system gets exposed and there will be a start the damage to plants.

Why is rainy season plant care needed?

  • Monsoon is the best time for plants because it facilitates low temperature and humidity and all combo of weather for plants to grow. This makes plants feel better to survive and settle well.

  • Encourages root tip elongation for the well spread of root zones.

  • Now the question arises that after an all favorable atmosphere why do we need to care for them in the monsoon.

  • Because this favorable weather also invites pests, insects, and fungi to settle during this time.

  • Also chances of roots rotting in plants.

  • Fertigation at this time is best. why? because most of us use chemical fertilizers they warm by nature after they get mixed up in the soil they start creating heat around.

  • But the cold atmosphere of the monsoon around helps the plant feels well even after fertigation. But at this time light, fertigation is good rather than heavy.

  • Such heat may cause root damage thus it damages the whole plant also. if you are a regular gardener you may have seen such a thing in your gardening tenure. It happens more in summer.

  • The reason is the outer atmosphere is warm and the root zone has heat after fertilizer application both kinds of the warm atmosphere become unbearable for plants and plants get die. Such thing mainly occurs in the summertime if you noticed.

  • So monsoon is the best time to fertilize plants also.

  • Always check for stagnant water it may damage the plant.

General rainy season plant care tips

  • If you found a few rotten leaves in some water-obsessed plants, remove them.

  • To avoid rotting after rain, drench it with proper fungicide for its survival.

  • Re-potting: to do for Plants which have over absorption of rainwater.

  • And the plants with over drained pot soil with opened root zones.

  • Re-potting is not necessary for all pots, you can refill earth soil or plant mixture in pots. To fulfill soil drained during rain and have seen open roots zones.

How to take care of plants in rainy weather (For the collection of plants in the corridor below the open sky
) :

Here is the checklist for it –

1. Earth soil flooded from the pot with rainwater?

Ans- re-pot with new plant mixture if needed otherwise one can just add mixture which is washed out

2. wet earthen pot has cracks?

Ans- better to change such pot on time before they get exposed to rain.

3. No drainage from the bottom hole of the pot?

Ans- Make the holes at the bottoms of the pot or replace them with a pot with a hole. Excess water stored in the pot may damage roots and thus the whole plant. If there is a tray below the pot better to empty it when filled with water, if possible remove them to avoid stagnant water.

4. Some water-obsessed plants may get down/die check for it?

Ans- If possible treat with fungicides. on the intervals of 7-15 days as per plant requirements. Means hardened need more or young plants less. 50-100 of the solution is enough to drench. After the drench put some water in it also. Keep some distance from the main stem(root zone). Think of a stem as a center at least keep a radial distance of 3-6 inches for garden plants, it varies as per plant size and height. The purpose is not to harm root zones.

5. Do you have a collection of Cactus and Succulents?

Ans- Cactus plants in the open sky rather than glass house or polyhouse we usually drench plants with COC (copper oxychloride). Two grams/liter (Get expert advice for your plants before using it). At an interval of 7-10 days during regular rainy days. If the rain is not that frequent you can stretch the schedule to 10-12 days. But be vigilant that they do not get rotten. usually, they start rotting from the base of the plant ( Ex. Grusonii cactus). But some may get rotting on top or middle also.

Rotten cactus plants after rain.

WHen GARDEN PLANTS IN THE RAINY WEATHER get AFFECTED BY RAIN

The part of a plant that gets damaged or rotten then applies COC (copper oxychloride) to it.

It can stop the plant get damaging more.

When the plant gets gloomy apply fungicide treatment to them in the potting soil.

Drench fungicide at intervals of every 7-8 days. For a collection of cactus plants in the open space.

Always use branded fungicides available in the market, and avoid low-quality ones. While application of such chemicals always keeps your pet and children far from the pot.

Keep such chemicals out of reach of children and pets. Always follow product instructions while using chemicals.

Conclusion

To make your garden thrive in the pre and post-monsoon most of the practices you need to do is :

  1. less watering,
  2. Check for pests, insects, and fungi,
  3. Pruning of overgrown leaves or branches.
  4. Whenever possible give sunlight exposure in between.
  5. Can use fungicide for affected plants.
  6. Avoid over-watering.

Wish you all the plant and garden lovers happy plant care during rainy weather.

Why my plants are dying in rainy season?

They are having more rainwater and have root rots due to overwatering. If you want to save them you can try fungicide. It will increase the chances of survival of the plants. But the condition is, that rotting should not have on optimum level.

What to do with potted plants when it rains?

There are chances of them getting more rainwater instead of their need /appetite. If the plant below the open sky in the garden and not feeling well, you can put them below roof shade near the garden or porch of the home.

Garden design – How to design a garden

Now we head to the next part of the garden development that is Garden design- How to design a garden  Which is an integral part of garden development on your own.

As we completed the general understanding of the garden then soil and land preparation and then land preparation now we are at the next important part of garden development that is garden design or designing of the garden.

After the completion of the steps of the garden development in previous articles. we have the ready well surfaced, leveled land for the planning of all our garden features like lawn, hedges, plants, etc. As we have learned in the last article on land preparation.

Why we make this designing complicated learn easily as below :

Tools and tackles we need for design a garden

1. White marking powder ( one can use chalk powder “Chuna“)

2. 5-7 mm thick and 2-3 feet long iron rods ( for the tie to thread  ), one can use bamboo or any wooden sticks at least thick like your thumb with good strength and quality. One can make themselves from scrap wood also.

3. “Pawda” and “Kodali” for leveling if there is any obstacle found during design to remove it.

4. And “Tagara” (ghamela) to collect the dirt, debris any other waste collection.

5. Hammer to fit the marking bar/ sticks in the land.

6. Plastic thread/ sutali to tie the marking bars/sticks

7. Measuring tap.

Process of design layout on land

First of all, you should have a ready design on paper or you may have the design by a landscape architect.

If you want to make your own design read the general guidelines for it in the previous article written here How to start a garden.

How much part of the garden you want to have a lawn, ornamental plants, flowering shrubs, trees, etc.

As you have the same area drawn on paper and design on paper. Start measuring on prepared land and put marking bar/ sticks on the points.

How to build a garden practically

For example: Out of the total garden you have a 10×4=40 Square meter area to layout for the lawn. Where 10 is the length and 4 is the width. So it’s gone be a rectangle. Measure it by measure tap.

And the rectangle has four corners. Now it’s four corners are our points to put marking bars/ sticks.

Then this all for bars fitted on the four corners of the rectangle. Start from anyone with tying thread to anyone bar and return back after tying all the bar in rectangle way to the same bar where you first tied the knot.

Which makes the full rectangle. Always tie the thread on the bar at least 1 to 2 inches above the surface level not more than it.

After tying the thread now take a needful amount of the Chalk powder or any white marking powder. And then take the gloves on your hand.

Then take a sufficient amount in your hand keep your hand which has to mark power in it above the thread at least by 2 inches and start dropping the small amount of the powder continuously to make a continuous straight line.

Then after completing the job now untie the thread and pick up the fitted bars.

Now whatever design appeared is your layout for planting. Now you can make a border with bricks or any hedge plants etc. And area inside the marking with lawn or any plants whichever suitable as per plan/ Design

Conclusion

This is how you can layout the whole garden before planting. All the features should be laid out before starting any plantation or green work.

It defines a space for every feature on land so everything goes as per planning and so nothing gets messed up.

After doing such hard work you get the actual garden shaping up. After that, you can plan the purchase of all the green materials like how much lawn you need, what quantity of plant we need.

If planning rockery then you can decide how many rocks to buy. Adding any water feature then you can estimate the material also. And above all, you can now plant the planned material.

This literature is like DIY in the garden hope you like it and understand the garden design very practically.

And this is not just to read and learn you can implement it on the go. Still, you have queries. Not understand any of the points here do comment. Feel free to write.

Garden Design- How to design a garden is an important step in making a garden in case of Layout, figure out the need for panting material, as well as the financial costing of the  Garden.

Introducing: New practices for healthy preparation of soil for garden, 2022

Land Preparation for garden

In a journey of How to start a development/making of a garden. preparation of soil for garden is an important step to follow during it.

The First step for garden development is the preparation of land also we can’t refer to it as soil preparation it’s a different thing. How to prepare a land we understand as below.

General discussion about soil is discussed in this blog do not mix it with land preparation be clear any doubt comment below, it’s completely different from each other. But here we start working on practical steps of making land suitable for shaping our garden on it. Means planting of lawns, shrubs, herbs, trees, etc.

take note that this is also an important step before executing the garden.

Preparation of soil for garden/ Land preparation for garden

What are the steps of the preparation of soil? There are three main steps for the preparation of soil for garden as described below :

STEP-1 WATERING, CLEANING & PLOUGHING

  • Most in the case before the development of garden lands were found shabby for example a garden patch left after construction which found with some debris and land, not in use for long found with heavy weeds and scrap, etc.

  • So first of all for land preparation for the garden remove the dirt, debris, and weeds from the assigned/particular area finalized for garden development.

  • Now water the whole area in which we are going to develop a garden. If there are monsoons and the area is wet then no need to water it.

  • In a dry season give it a flood watering. Then let it dry till the day when you put the foot open on land and the foot doesn’t have sticky soil on it. Which means it’s an ideal soil for plowing.

  • Then dig the soil by tractor cultivator or plow (as the requirement of your land). And after that move a rotary mover on it. One can do shallow digging by “Kodali” and then level it with “Pawda” also if the garden area is small (means home garden etc).

  • Now the question arises in the mind why is such hard work done? The answer is all these practices make soil aeration, porosity, and water holding capacity good for all the green stuff we are planning to grow on that land.

STEP-2 LEVELING

  • In this step, we level the land after the completion of digging/plowing.

  • While the execution of leveling soil moisture of the land would be 20-10% not more than this otherwise wet soil will stick to leveling tools, which may lead to improper preparation of land.

  • In a small garden, you can do leveling with handheld tools like “Pawda” and in a big area, leveling can be done by tractor levelers of heavy-duty leveling machines in case of large projects.

STEP-3 GRADIENT OF LAND

  • Here we define the GRADIENT of land as 1 and 0 where 1 is the highest level of the land assigned for the garden and 0 will be the lowest point of the garden area. Now one question in your mind arises what is the need for GRADIENT in the making of the garden? The answer is as below.

  • A well-directed GRADIENT of the garden makes a good way out for water we provide to the garden lawn and plants. So as the soil becomes well-drained and it arranges good aeration for the plant root zone.

  • If we do not follow this step this may cost us in the latter. If not checked well during leveling there are waterlogged areas that get left, and waterlogging is very bad for most of the garden plants. Occurs in root rot and then you buy chemicals to cure it and so on.

  • In the long-run well-leveled garden go very good for sustainability and good health of lawn and plants so as for the beauty of the  GARDEN.

  • So as part of learning how to start a garden initiative, you got the most basic of PREPARATION OF SOIL FOR GARDEN.

Have questions? Feel free to comment I’ll reply.

How do you prepare land for a garden?

1. First of all water the raw land after it gets dry dig well manually or by a tractor.
2 Remove unwanted weed, debris, and dirt.
3 Plowing for good aeration of the soil for the plant’s root zone. Which helps the plant flourish.
3 Level the land and set the water gradient for well-draining of water.
4 Apply the base fertilizer (EX. DAP) or Any organic fertilizers before planting any green stuff (plants, lawns, etc.)
5 Do termite or insect treatment that is already in the soil.
This practice makes the soil completely ready for the garden.

What soil to use to start a garden?

1. What soil consists of is ingredients like sand, clay, Chalk, and humus. The best mixture of these ingredients makes the loamy soil.
2. Ideal garden soil consists of sufficient plant food for maximum growth, maximum loam texture, a substantial amount of humus, and a well-drained subsoil.

Why is there a need to prepare the land for planting?

1. Because when you plant a plant fertilizer does not get stolen by weeds, it goes to your plant.
2. Ploughed land provides the best aeration to plant root zones.
3. A prior insecticide treatment makes plants free from soil-born diseases.
4. A good level makes the garden free from water logging in all seasons with monsoon also.
5. this makes the garden sustainable for a long.

What are the 5 steps in land preparation?

1. Watering is the first step, it makes the land soft before starting out the land preparation work.
2. Ploughing – is important for good aeration for your future plans.
3. Insecticide treatment makes plants free from soil-borne diseases and makes land free from diseases.
4. Leveling to set water draining gradient to avoid waterlogging
5. Fertilization of the soil by base fertilizer like DAP (Diammonium phosphate) instead of NPK

A new approach to general gardening steps before planing it first time

General gardening things to understand before planning it

Namaste, Guys

Today focus on what and how you could go when you decide to plant a garden.
